A Pox on this Rox: Local watering hole (and Chad Kroeger stomping ground) The Roxy is celebrating 20 years of leading the pack in Vancouver’s bar-star scene. Thursday (Aug. 14) they’re hosting an anniversary party, which means you get a chance to bump elbows with the people responsible for bringing you the same-old, same-old year after year after year. In the City has laundry to do.
All Growed Up: Get in touch with your inner child this Friday (Aug. 15) at the adult-oriented, no-children-allowed Science World After Dark party from 6:30-10 p.m. $25 gets you access to all the exhibits usually hidden under teeming piles of sticky, overexcited toddlers. After you master the wave-making machine, toddle over to the cash bar and make a few waves of your own while dancing to percussion/dance show SWARM.
Free Love (while supplies last): Affluent West 4th Avenue is celebrating “Hippie Daze: The Summer of Love” this Saturday (Aug. 16) between Balsam and Burrard. In other words, get ready for a mass real-life staging of The Big Chill (sans Tom Berenger). Provided you’re not allergic to the co-mingling of smugness and pot smoke, there’ll be plenty to do, including macrame (seriously?), a ’60s car show, and live music. Info: Kitsilano4thAvenue.com
