THE FRESH SHEET FOOD & DRINK HAPPENINGS

Don’t forget to purchase tickets to the 2008 Lower Mainland Feast of Fields, taking place at the beautiful UBC Farm on Sunday, September 7. The much-loved outdoor food festival sees some of the area’s top restaurants and chefs doling out tasty nibbles in support of FarmFolk/CityFolk, an organization that promotes building and maintaining connections between chefs and local farmers. Chef Karen Gin, formerly of Hotel Vancouver and Diva at the Met, has signed on with Zin Restaurant & Lounge (1277 Robson, 604-408-1700, Zin-Restaurant.com) as its new executive chef.

WE food critic Andrew Morrison judged the “black box competition” at the 2008 Chefs to the Field event. The annual event drew a crowd of over 2,000 food lovers to Terra Nova Rural Park in Richmond, where some of B.C.’s top chefs were tasked with marrying a secret ingredient (sardines!) with whatever they could find in the vast gardens beyond their tents. The winner? The West End’s own Raincity Grill. For more information and video footage of the event, visit MyTerranova.ca
